FAQ

Do I need a referral?
In order to claim a Medicare Rebate, you will need a referral from your GP, or other doctor. Allied health referrals, such as Physiotherapist letters are welcomed and provide valuable information.

How do I make an appointment?
Book online or call 02 9966 4700 to book the next available appointment.

What do I bring to the appointment?
Wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows a clear view of any injured body parts.
— Referral letters
— Imaging reports
— Running shoes, orthotics, splints or other sporting equipment that may be relevant to your appointment

What should I expect from my first appointment?
A detailed discussion will cover your general health, sports and activities, nutrition and where you are currently at in your rehabilitation journey. A long appointment is booked to take a holistic approach to your care.

A physical examination will then look not only at your injury, but for possible causes elsewhere in the body. We will aim to reach an accurate diagnosis and search for the contributing factors in order to prevent re-injury in the future.

A treatment plan is then formed with your input, there is no ‘one size fits all’. This may involve referral for further investigations. An important part of the consult is a thorough explanation of your condition, it’s causes and what you can do to be actively involved in reaching your goals.

Communicating with your GP and other professionals you are working with ensures a smooth rehabilitation. This is often done via a letter or phone call.

By the end of your appointment, you should feel that you understand your current situation as well as the next steps. If not, please ask!

Do I need an MRI?
At times, an XRay, MRI or other investigation is helpful for diagnosis or treatment and you will be provided with a referral. After a thorough history and physical examination, the need for imaging will be discussed. If these have already been performed, please bring any reports or films to your appointment.

Can I claim a rebate from Medicare or my Private Health Fund?
Yes, there is a Medicare rebate available to eligible patients that covers part of the consultation fee. Consultations do not attract a private health fund rebate, but you may be able to claim on purchases of medical devices such as CAM Boots or visco-supplementation products, depending on your level of cover. This will need to be discussed with your fund.

It is important to note that PRP injections are not covered by Medicare.

What services do you provide?
Dr Sly provides a range of services to achieve an accurate diagnosis and get you on the path to recovery faster. A thorough history, physical examination and a collaborative discussion of treatment plans with you is key in this process, which is why appointments are longer than many medical consults.

We will take the time to discuss your condition and build a personalised recovery plan, with support every step of the way. The following interventions are available onsite:

— PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections
— Visco-supplementation injections (examples include Durolane or Synvisc)
— Corticosteroid injections
Ultrasound guidance is available.
